There is a saying in Finland, that literally translates to “sorbus bears no two burdens”, which has generally been construed to mean either that the next winter will possibly be cold, or come little or no snow. We noticed, that this past autumn, the sorbuses had produced an amazing amount of berries.

Joulu lähestyy ja Suomessa on pikkujoulujen aika. Perinteiset joulutortut paistuvat uuneissa ja lapset odottavat niitä vesi kielellä. Nämä ovat poikkeuksellisesti täytetty päärynä-kinuskitäytteellä luumuhillon sijasta. (Omasta mielestäni luumutäyte on silti joulutortuissa parasta.)
Yuletid is coming up soon, and it’s time for little Christmas parties all over Finland. One of the traditional Finnish christmas treats being baked, is the yule tart, or star tart, favourite of many Finnish kids. These were made with pear and caramel filling instead of plum jam. (In my humble opinion, plum jam is still the best.)
