I noticed a weird thing. I seem to be missing many of my photos. I thought I moved everything from my old laptop to my main photo editing rig a while ago, but it looks like there are certain photos I would have wanted to tokenize that I can not currently find. I may have to do another set of daily NFTs later, since I don't have much time to dig them up before this one is done.

I am particularly proud of this photo, since it proves the age old adage that the best camera is the one you have brought with you. This one was taken with my smartphone, so the quality is not quite on par with those taken with professional camera equipment, but it is still breathtakingly beautiful.

I miss Lapland. I haven't been there for ages. There are so many things to take photos of there. This photo was taken a while back on the Eastern top of Pyhätunturi (the Pyhä fell), that is called Kultakero ("the gold hill"). It's a good view, and with a good weather, you can see quite far from there.
Lappiin on ikävä. En ole ollut siellä pitkiin aikoihin. Siellä on paljon kuvattavaa. Tämä kuva on otettu jonkin aikaa sitten Pyhätunturin itäisimmän huipun, Kultakeron laelta. Näköala on melkoinen, sieltä näkee hyvällä ilmalla tosi kauas.

The scenery today perhaps doesn’t match the posted photo, but at least we had a cold spout for a while last week. Let’s hope it’ll freeze soon, with some snowfall, so that Santa can arrive with presents.

Näyttäisi siltä, että panoramojen julkaisemisessa Internettiin on ihan pikkuinen ongelma. Ne vievät hirmuisesti tilaa. Tämän takia tämäkin panorama on ensin pienennetty hurjasti, ja senkin jälkeen aivan julmetusti pakattu. Tämä tarkoittaa sitä, että vaikka nyt pystynkin siirtämään sen ongelmitta WordPress-alustalle, ja se latautunee useimmille suht. ongelmitta, sen kuvanlaadussa on jonkin verran parantamisen varaa.
It would appear there is a slight problem when publishing panoramas on the Internet. They take up a monstrous share of space. For this fact, I had to first scale this image down quite a lot, and even after that, I had to pack the resulting jpeg file tremendously. This means, that while I can currently upload it on my WordPress site, and most of you can see it without too much problems, the picture quality is certainly lacking.
Tästä kuvasta en kuitenkaan aio julkaista tarkempaa versiota. Olisin halunnut siihen hieman enemmän taivasta. Ehkäpä onnistun paremmin jollain toisella kertaa.
I don't however plan to publish a high resolution version now. I would have liked to have just a little bit more of the sky visible. Maybe I will succeed a bit better some other time.

Pitkän mietiskelyn jälkeen, päätin alkaa luomaan viikoittaista (?) kuvasarjaa Suomen kulttuurinähtävyyksistä, johon tarkoituksenani on kerätä kuvia meille suomalaisille kulttuurillisesti merkittävistä paikoista, maisemista ja nähtävyyksistä.
After some though, I decided to make a weekly series of cultural attractions of Finland, comprised mainly of places, sceneries, and landmarks of cultural value to us Finns.
Ensimmäisen osan kuvasarjaa kuvasin jo noin viikko sitten, käydessäni Kouvolassa. Toinen on vielä toistaiseksi mietinnässä. Toivon mukaan saan materiaalin julkaisuvalmiiksi ensi-maanantaihin mennessä.
I photographed the first part of the series about a week ago, while visiting the town of Kouvola. The second part is still under consideration. I'm hoping I will get the material ready for publishing until next Monday.
Mielakanmäki, tuttavallisemmin Mielakka, on Kouvolassa, Mielakan kaupunginosan länsipuolella sijaitseva laskettelu- ja mäkipyöräilykeskus.
Mielakanmäki, or just Mielakka, is hill with both a downhill ski'ing, and downhill biking resort, located in the western part of Mielakka district of the town Kouvola.
Vuonna 2020, alueen asukkaat maalasivat mäelle nousevalle asfalttitielle 412 metriä pitkän "Räsymatto"-teemaisen katutaideteoksen. Sitä pidetään Suomen pisimpänä räsymattokatumaalauksena. Samana vuonna Mikkeliin maalattu räsymattomaalaus oli pituudeltaan vain 105 metriä.
In the year 2020 the residents of the area painted a 412 meter long "Rag Rug" themed street-art mural on to the road leading up to the top of the hill. A rag rug painting painted in the same year in the town of Mikkeli, was only 105 meters long.

Aikoinaan Vesijärvi ulottui poukamana lähes kaupungille asti, kunnes sen yli rakennettiin satamaan kulkeva junarata, joka erotti Pikku-Vesijärven omaksi lammekseen. Sittemmin junarata on lakkautettu, eikä juna enää kulje poukaman yli satamaan. Ratapengertä ei kuitenkaan enää poistettu. “Pikku-Veskusta” ja sen ympäristöstä on tullut suosittu virkistys- ja ulkoilualue.
Vesijärvi bay used to almost reach the town, until a railway to the harbour was built over it, separating Pikku-Vesijärvi as it’s own little pond. Since then, the railroad has been shut down, and the train no longer crosses the bay to the harbour. The enbankment however wasn’t removed. “Pikku-Vesku” and its immediate surroundings have become a popular recreation area.
Pikku-Veskun ympärillä kulkee maailmankin mittakaavassa harvinaisuus; Kariniemen arboretum, puulajipolku, johon on istutettu 45 eri lajin puuta.
The park surrounding Pikku-Vesku is a global rarity; Kariniemi Arboretum. It is a park path showcasing 45 different species of trees.

I visited Vääksy yesterday, to take a quick look at Norrlin park, the surviving area of the famous Johan Petter Norrlin’s (PhD, Plant Sciences) estate park, that has been converted into a forest garden.
Vierailin eilen Vääksyssä ja kävin vilkaisemassa Norrlinin puistoa, kuuluisan kasvitieteen kasvitieteen tohtori Johan Petter Norrlinin kartanonpuistosta jäljelle jääneen metsäpuutarhan.
The info boards said I’d could freely roam, pick and taste the berries and/or herb leaves that grow in the park. Too bad nothing green actually grows in the Winter. It is just too cold, and there’s too much snow for the sunlight to get to the greens.
Infotaulun mukaan olisin saanut kierrellä alueella vapaasti, sekä poimia ja syödä marjoja ja yrttien lehtiä, mutta harmikseni mikään sellainen ei oikeasti kasva talvella. On aivan liian kylmä, eikä auringonvalokaan pääse kaiken lumen läpi kasvien lehdille.
At the southern end of the park, I saw the highway overpass. It was a very sunny day, and it affected the way I had to shoot. I’m glad I had the opportunity to use the dual-ISO function of my camera.
Puiston eteläpäädyssä näin moottoritien ylikulkusillan. Oli erittäin aurinkoinen päivä ja se vaikutti hiukan myös kuvaamiseenkin. On kuitenkin kiva, että pystyin käyttämään kamerani dual-ISO -toimintoa.

If you have a Canon camera, there is a possibility that you too can use the Magic Lantern app on to add more essential functionality to your camera, Dual-ISO being one. I especially like trap focus when using manual lenses. There’s a ton of functionality that a camera normally doesn’t have (but should).

So I continued my expedition by taking the path to the ‘Cabin of Silence’.

Last night I found myself wanting to shoot some long exposures.
I took all my gear and went for a quick drive around the town, looking for places to shoot photos in.
The lens I used in these photos was a Sigma Art 12-24mm 4.0. It is a bit front heavy lens, so I will likely need to find some solution to the ball-head slipping. It prevents me from shooting vertical.
It was a bit cloudy so I couldn’t get photos of the stars, but I guess I’m going to have to wait for a night like that. I just checked the weather forecast and it’ll be cloudy for the next 10 days at least.
